We should all be conscious of the fact that the owners of copyright are entitled to be paid for the use of their property - the music they create. They earn their livings from creating and/or publishing music.
The NZCF takes this issue very seriously and encourages its member choirs to do the same. Member choirs can help other members to comply with their legal obligations by lending kosher copies of their music. It's customary to pay something for that but, among non-professional choirs, that's more to recognise "wear and tear" rather than for an economic return. And, if everyone participates, we will all be able to present our performances with a clear conscience and with limited use of the photocopier.
Don't forge twww.cadence.natlib.govt.nz . This is organised by the National Library of New Zealand. Cadence and is a searchable database of choral and orchestral music available for hire.
Here's what we need
NZCF-Auckland wants to help this exchange through this Virtual Library. This is simply a list of music that member choirs are prepared to lend - we need the name of the work, the composer, the number of copies, and a contact name and details (phone number or email address).
Please supply your lists in an Excel spreadsheet with each column headed up with the bold items listed. Send them to the editor - jonathan.sadler@nzcf.org.nz.
