- planning a visit to New Zealand?

Is your choir planning to visit New Zealand?  If so, you are probably interested in making contact with similar local choirs, perhaps with a view to:

-         having joint concerts;

-         making arrangements for billets to reduce accommodation costs;

-         making new friends.

We know that you will have a marvellous time in New Zealand – it’s a beautiful country and the natives are very friendly.  So we want you to come and enjoy yourself.

When it comes to helping visiting choirs out, NZCF-Auckland is run entirely by volunteers.  We know a little about the choral scene in our area (broadly, from South Auckland northwards) and so will be able to help but only to a limited extent – that’s just a time issue.

In the meantime, there are ways that you can help yourself – we hope that the tips on this page help you to come to our country and enjoy your experience.

1. Planning ahead

You should be doing your planning at last 12 months in advance, especially if you want a local choir to join in with your public performances.  They need to plan their joint appearance with you into their own programmes. It’s also important for you to factor in school holidays if you are a choir that wants to link up with school groups here.  New Zealand families tend to take their holidays quite seriously.  And the schools themselves won’t be there during the breaks.  You can find details of school holidays over the next little while here.

2. Contacts

The member choirs of NZCF in the Auckland area are listed here (for community choirs) and here (for school choirs) with contact details.  We suggest that you first make contact with choirs that look a bit like yours.  Even if they can't help, they will probably suggest someone who can.

3. Quarterly

About every three months, NZCF-Auckland prints a newsletter that it mails to all its members.  You can see past issues here.  For $NZ25, you could place an advertisement in Quarterly that tells our members when you are coming and what you would like to do when you get here.  You will see advertising details at the end of each issue of Quarterly.

4. Advertising on this page

You will see details below of choirs that have been in touch with the editor of this Web site (jonathan.sadler@nzcf.org.nz).  You can add the details for your own visit by emailing the editor.  Here is what we need:

-         name of choir;

-         email address of contact;

-         type of choir (e.g. community, a capella, secondary school, specialist music)

-         number travelling;

-         planned dates in New Zealand;

-         type of help needed (e.g. joint concert, billets, venues etc.)

We send an email message to our choir members every other month and will draw their attention to this particular page.

However, you shouldn’t count on this being all you need to do.  If you want to make sure of getting in touch with the people you want to contact, you need to do 1. to 3. above as well.
